Lansing Sate Journal Review

By Ray Walsh

"
The Reliquary of Earth by Okemos

award-winning poet Jan Shoemaker is a

slim but impressive collection of verse

that will linger long after the last page is

Jan Shoemaker has been honored as one of eight poets, selected by the Lansing Poet Laureate, and representatives from the City of Lansing, the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, and the Lansing Poetry Club to have their work embedded into the sidewalks of Lansing Michigan celebrating the power of art to enrich our lives.

Please join Jan and the other poets in celebration on Thursday Aug 30 from 6-8pm at the Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center. The program will feature readings of the winning poems, a short documentary film about the project, and opportunities to create your own "Poetry Art." Attendees are invited to exercise their own poetic and artistic licenses in "Build a City/Write about that City." Photos of Lansing will be available for participants to tear and rearrange as a collage, under which you can write a short, spontaneous poem.

This project is supported by a grant from the City of Lansing, Michigan - Government, the LEAP, and the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, and was awarded to the Lansing Poetry Club in the fall of 2017.

The event is FREE and open to the public.

For more information, contact Lansing Art Gallery & Education Center, Dennis Hinrichsen or Ruelaine Stokes.
